Energy Savings – that was easy

Staples Inc., one of GreenTech Energy Service’s “greenest” clients, has been awarded the 2011 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award for Energy Management. Staples came in 10% under its 2010 energy budget of $100 million dollars.

Lighting was one of the energy conservation measures that helped reach this goal, while helping the company cut its greenhouse gas emissions, reduce waste, and eliminate obsolete technology that no longer meets Federal energy efficiency standards.

GreenTech is pleased to have been part of this effort, having designed and implemented lighting retrofits in dozens of distribution centers and warehouses, and in several hundred retail stores. Obsolete lighting has been replaced by new technology that cuts energy use and costs, while improving the aesthetics of the buildings.

“Staples has carefully measured the amount of energy it has saved through all these lighting projects,” says Bob Valair, Staples’ Director of Energy and Environmental Management. “Many have cut energy consumption by nearly 50 percent, and dramatically shrunk our facilities’ carbon footprints. The projects also improve light quality, which enhances the comfort, safety and security of the associates and shoppers. The projects themselves have gone very smoothly. GreenTech’s crews are clean, quiet and efficient, and careful to work around our schedules. Last but not least, these lighting upgrades have significantly cut our utility bills. With a payback of less than two years, the projects confirm Staples’ belief that doing good things for the environment is also good for the bottom line.”
