Berwick Offray, an affiliate of CSS Industries, is the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of decorative ribbons and bows. The company hired GreenTech Energy Services to retrofit the lighting in its main plant in Berwick, Pennsylvania. Outdated 400-watt metal halide fixtures were replaced with new T5 and T8 fixtures with occupancy sensors. In the ribbons and bows department, where all types and sizes of lights were running in different directions, GreenTech removed all fixtures and replaced with new energy efficient lights in a uniform layout. The result was much brighter lighting with better color rendering, which has enhanced quality control in the production areas, created a safer work environment, and raised employee productivity. The project has also significantly reduced carbon emissions, while achieving the company’s main goal of savings energy dollars. “GreenTech has done retrofits in three plants so far, and there has always a savings when the project is complete,” says Dave Fifield, Berwick’s Maintenance Manager. “We hope to retrofit the rest of the plant next year.”
